History

Over the past 20 years, the State Use Programs Association (SUPRA) has been a resource of best practices for member states engaged in creating and sustaining employment for American’s with disabilities.

SUPRA was founded in December 1997 with 17 members.

Prior to this founding, the American Rehabilitation Association provided State Use organizations the opportunity to exchange information, network and participate in training and educational activities of mutual interest.

When the association restructured into primarily separate medical and vocational entities, its State Use Division formed the independent SUPRA, with a mission “to promote legislatively mandated preferential purchasing programs which provide vocational training and employment for people with disabilities.”

For the past 25 years, SUPRA has endeavored to grow its impact and voice, overcome challenges within the world of disability employment, and improve livelihoods for those working on state use contracts.
